I'm learning French from company's sponsored lunchtime class and so far, I've already missed 3 out of 9 classes. I think I'm pretty hopeless in languages. Took up Jap for 2-3 yrs a few yrs ago, and I still couldn't figure out what conversations, not to mention speaking it. I'll stutter when the teacher asks me questions and I think it's obvious from my facial expression that I'm trying to (i) figure out what she's asking and (ii) constructing my reply in the right sentence. It doesn't help that ALL objects in French, including beverages, countries etc have a gender, and we're supposed to use the correct "a", "the", "my" etc attached to these objects. Only 9 lessons and I think I'm almost dying. Despite all these, I admit that I feel most delighted when I can recognize what the actors in movies (like the waiter in Spiderman III) are saying when they say "Si'l vous plait!", "Monsieur" etc. I'll nudge Daryl and whispered excitedly, “Hey! That means "please"!”and "That means “Mr.” in French you know?" ;) But to my dismay, hubby didn't seem to be impressed.. haha.. Well, I guess I really need to be disciplined enough to make some time to sit down and go thru what has been taught so far and I'll try not to skip classes if possible.
